Parkrun is such a gift for anyone with nerdy tendencies for analysing data, ticking off lists and completing challenges. I’ve loved doing different parkruns around the UK when we’ve travelled to see people, or been away on holiday. Last summer we were in Suffolk and Norfolk and managed to add three new parkruns – Southwold, Holkham and Brandon Country Park. This year we decided to go to Islay in the summer where there are no parkruns, but I managed to fit in Talkin Tarn on the way.

I started the year with just two letters to get to complete my parkrun alphabet – Q and Z. I did Queen Elizabeth parkrun with some fellow Eagles back in April – a hilly route through gorgeous woodland. And then had a weekend away in The Hague in November with Jonny to get the Z at Zuiderpark. We had a wonderful weekend. I loved The Hague with its canals and cycle paths everywhere and we saw some excellent art including Escher prints and an exhibition of The Book of Veles by Jonas Bendickson.

It seemed to be mainly people from the UK at the parkrun on Saturday morning. We met someone who works for parkrun who was over checking out new courses – what a great job! It was my 79th location and my first outside the UK.

For the record, here are my favourite or only parkruns for each letter:
Ashton Court
Brandon Country Park
Coldhams Common
Dulwich
Edinburgh
Forest of Dean
Gunnersbury
Harrow Lodge
Ifield Mill Pond
Jersey Farm
Kingston
Leamington
Margate
Northala Fields
Orpington
Panshanger
Queen Elizabeth
Rendlesham Forest
Sizewell
Talkin Tarn
Upton Court
Victoria Dock
Wimpole Estate
York
Zuiderpark

(There’s no parkrun beginning with X anywhere in the world, before you ask)
