I had a great time at Ealing half marathon. Mandy, my sister, and Joel and Harry did it, along with Dave, Sam and James – friends of Harry’s that I had written training plans for.
Then that evening I kicked the frame of my bed, accidentally, and fractured my little toe. I didn’t go to A&E straight away as I was hoping it was just bruised. I had to pull out of the Suffolk half marathon two weeks later and walked the 10k route instead with my friend Jill. Four weeks later it was still painful so I went to Urgent Care early one Sunday morning and got it x-rayed. Turns out it was broken after all. I started strapping it to the next toe and tried to rest it but am never very good at staying still.
They said it should take six weeks to heal. I finally did a tentative two mile run to the gym and back in mid-November and have gradually built back up from there. It’s been frustrating and I’ve lost a lot of fitness. I went to Malta at the beginning of November and for the first time since I can remember didn’t run on holiday. My annual running goal of 2025km is no longer in view.
But it seems to be mended now and I managed a two hour run/walk in Norfolk last weekend. I’ve written a training plan for my next event; hopefully I’m on the way back!
